Inspiring with straight up cool swagger, Booty Shakers Ball is Vista Kicks new album and its filled with charming vocals and an impeccably played musical backdrop. It’s impossible to compare this band to anything else on the scene. They mix a 1970’s rock influence (which is interesting because this gang of four looks to be in their early 20’s) with an inventive sound of their own. A rush of guitars, prime '70’s rock' harmonies, booming bass and pounding drum beats mixed with sweet, soulful lyrics that sound great when sung. It’s swoonable classic pop-rock from a young upstart that is so atmospheric, it creates its own world and atmosphere whilst simultaneously reminding you of almost every great 70’s band. The succulent songs just roll on and on.
Hollywood based but Sacramento, CA born Vista Kicks is Derek Thomas, Trevor Sutton, Nolan LeVine and Sam Plecker. They made the move to Hollywood in 2016 and released 2 singles “Circles” and “Make It Real”, they played anywhere and everywhere, they followed it up with a six-song EP titled 'Chasing Waves.’ Their new debut full-length album 'Booty Shakers Ball' was self-funded through merch sales, gigs and a pre-sale via Pledge Music and so far, they have garnered 5.1 million Spotify streams and over 3.2 million YouTube plays and they have only just begun.
So, let’s dig into Booty Shakers Ball. “Gotta Get Away,” might be my favorite song in this collection, it’s immediately infectious and has you singing along in seconds. Up next the misty and vintage rock & roll of “Gimme Your Love,” another sing-along joint. Also, there’s the provocative, “Fight the War,” followed by the playful harmony in “Me & Mr. Reilly,” and the emotional “Give Myself to You.” There is more to love on this album too. The songs are fresh and contemporary but with a classic feel.
Bottom line…you don’t have a pulse if don’t get massive delight and pleasure with Booty Shakers Ball.
